THANK YOU FOR MY NEW BIKE!

Thanks to so many for support of the 9/11 Tribute Museum’s 9th annual 9/11 National Day of Service & Remembrance. Over 500 bikes were assembled and given to children of the Joint Special Operations Communications Unit and families of first responders. Volunteers from companies directly affected by 9/11 came together to remember loved ones, friends and colleagues and to celebrate the spirit of community and renewal of Lower Manhattan. This year was very special to assemble the bikes within the Westfield World Trade Center Oculus. The day reminds us all of the tremendous spirit of generosity in the aftermath of 9/11 when people came together.

And there is still time to participate by making an online donation. Help us continue to #BuildSmiles!

Volunteers built 500 bicycles for children of active U.S. Military members

Our great thanks to Bank of NY Mellon, lead sponsor of the 9/11 Tribute Museum’s 9th annual 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. They along with more than 400 employees from Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, Gero Family Charitable Trust (CFBTA), CME Group, Motorola Solutions Foundation, Sandler O’Neill & Partners LP, TWU and Zurich North America built 500 bicycles for children of active U.S. military members – we are grateful for their contributions and support.

We also wish to thank FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro and NYPD Commissioner James P. O’Neill. With members of the FDNY and NYPD, they showed their support for our 9/11 heroes and military service members by assembling bikes alongside members of the NYPD Emergency Service Unit, Department of Sanitation and Port Authority Police Department.

This year’s bike build stands out because we were able share with thousands of curious Oculus commuters and visitors the importance of giving back and the spirit of 9/11 when people came together. We are extremely grateful to the entire Westfield team and to WorldStage for their support in making the event a tremendous success.

Thank you also to APEX Express, USO and Rubenstein Public Relations for their support. We also wish to thank Eataly, Shake Shack, Pret A Manger and Wasabi who donated more than 500 lunch vouchers for the hard working volunteers and retailers Charles Tyrwhitt, L.K. Bennett and John Varvatos who donated items for the raffle.

Lastly, our deep appreciation to the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey for their support of the 9/11 Tribute Museum.

More than just a museum

The 9/11 Tribute Museum offers visitors the ability to learn factual information about the events, the unprecedented rescue and recovery operations and the rebuilding of both Lower Manhattan and of people’s lives. The Museum presents videos, artifacts and “Person to Person History,” linking visitors who want to understand the historic events of 9/11 with those who experienced them. Visitors discover the tremendous spirit of resilience and service that arose after the attacks, and are encouraged to honor the legacy of that spirit through volunteerism and acts of kindness in their own communities.

Personal gallery and walking tour experiences are available for student and group visits. Create your own legacy tribute with a pledge of community service to make the world a better place. Museum exhibitions are self-guided and take approximately 45 minutes.
