Volunteers of the 9\/11 Tribute Museum<\/strong> gathered for an annual summer celebration and to honor those who have gone above and beyond with volunteering in the museum over the course of the past year. 9\/11 Tribute volunteers were able to spend time together and enjoy each other\u2019s company and also celebrate their achievements. The 9\/11 Tribute staff even threw a surprise birthday party for a volunteer, Dina LaFond, who turned 93 on that day.<\/p>\n

Also at this gathering, volunteers were given awards in recognition of their achievements. Typically these awards are presented annually in April as part of National Volunteer Week, but due to the recent relocation of the 9\/11 Tribute Museum, these two events were combined into one.\u00a0 Awards were presented in four categories \u2013 Gallery Guides<\/b>, My 9\/11 Storytellers<\/b>, the Presidential Service Award<\/b>, and the Billy Quick Award<\/b>, named after a 9\/11 Tribute Museum volunteer, Billy Quick, who passed away due to 9\/11 related cancer.<\/p>\n

Billy embodied the spirit of a 9\/11 Tribute volunteer and began volunteering immediately, and enthusiastically after his training to begin his journey through the program before falling ill.<\/p>\n

Each awardee receives a certificate and a pin denoting their achievement. These volunteers and the time they give in sharing of themselves and their stories are integral to the visitor experience of the 9\/11 Tribute Museum.
