Today the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey<\/b> held the official re-dedication ceremony of the Koenig Sphere, which was moved to Liberty Park at the World Trade Center in September<\/a> of this year.<\/p>\n

Fritz Koenig\u2019s iconic Sphere was originally placed on the World Trade Center\u2019s Austin J. Tobin Plaza between the North and South Towers in 1971 where it was intended to represent peace and prosperity through world trade. The Sphere was badly damaged in the September 11th<\/sup> attacks and was installed in Battery Park in March 2002 where it sat as a reminder of the destruction of the attacks and the resilience of New York City for over 15 years.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s ceremony was hosted by Port Authority of New York & New Jersey Executive Director Rick Cotton. Speaking at the event was Michael Burke, brother of FDNY Captain Billy Burke who was killed on 9\/11 and has been a tireless advocate for having the Sphere brought back to the World Trade Center campus. 9\/11 Memorial & Museum President Alice Greenwald also spoke, as well as Christiane Fischer, president and CEO of AXA Art Americas Corp, which owns the Sphere.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
