{"id":2309,"date":"2019-02-21T12:58:26","date_gmt":"2019-02-21T17:58:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/911tributemuseum.org\/?p=2309"},"modified":"2019-02-21T13:09:11","modified_gmt":"2019-02-21T18:09:11","slug":"12th-annual-teacher-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/911tributemuseum.org\/12th-annual-teacher-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"12th Annual Teacher Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"[vc_row][vc_column][mk_fancy_title color=”#828282″ size=”24″ font_weight=”bold” txt_transform=”uppercase” font_family=”none”]On February 26, 2019 at 10 AM, the 9\/11 Tribute Museum<\/strong> will honor teachers from across the United States for the lessons they have created to introduce students of all ages to the complex topic of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001 and their aftermath.[\/mk_fancy_title][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1550772548751{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]For only the second time, the 9\/11 Tribute Museum Teacher Awards ceremony will be open to the public to highlight the work of educators in helping students to understand the effects of the attacks on 9\/11 and how people have tried to make a positive difference in the years since.
\nThis year\u2019s award winners work in elementary and middle school classrooms, and in each case have found age-appropriate resources and have developed projects that allow students to find their own ways to pay tribute to both those lost and those who responded. Many of the teachers have utilized primary sources as a key element in their lessons. The teachers have also emphasized the importance of the compassion that followed the attacks as an inspiration to engaging their students in community service activities.
\nEach winning school receives a cash award contributed by 9\/11 family foundations who support the 9\/11 Tribute Museum\u2019s educational outreach. The foundations are:<\/p>\n

The Brooke Jackman Foundation
\nThe Christopher Slattery 9\/11 Memorial Foundation
\nThe Greg Richards, Larry Polatsch, Scott Weingard (GLS) Memorial Fund
\nThe Terence D. Gazzani 9\/11 Scholarship Fund,
\nThe Terry Farrell Firefighters\u2019 Scholarship Fund
\nThe Welles Remy Crowther Charitable Trust.<\/p>\n

Also this year, the 9\/11 Tribute Museum will be dedicating the awards to the memory of Jefferson Crowther who passed away recently. Jeff and his wife Alison were closely tied to the 9\/11 Tribute Museum as sponsors of the Teacher Awards from the very first year they were given out. Everyone at the 9\/11 Tribute Museum send their condolences to Alison and the entire Crowther family.<\/p>\n

This event is open to the public. Educators and students are particularly invited to attend. The ceremony will be held at the 9\/11 Tribute Museum, 92 Greenwich Street, New York, NY 10006.<\/p>\n
