Part two entails each student interviewing a parent or relative who was alive during 9/11. Part three involves integrating technology and research into creating a tribute poster honoring one of the nearly 3,000 victims who perished on 9/11.

Part four consists of making real-world connections. This was accomplished by spending several weeks prior to this unit making connections with family members who lost a loved one at the Pentagon, the World Trade Center, or aboard one of the planes. The students sent letters and emails to the nearly 50 families who agreed to participate, and learned firsthand what these people had gone through and the impact that 9/11 had on them. The final part of the unit was a field trip to the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.[/vc_column_text][mk_button dimension=”flat” corner_style=”rounded” size=”large” url=”/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/911-tribute-museum-ozohonish-lesson-plan.pdf” target=”_blank” btn_hover_bg=”#3d4045″]Download This Lesson Plan[/mk_button][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner css=”.vc_custom_1551288794965{margin-bottom: 60px !important;padding-top: 60px !important;}”][vc_column_inner][mk_image src=”https://911tributemuseum.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/dm1wtrrvsaiqvn6.jpg_large-edit.jpg” image_size=”full” align=”center” margin_bottom=”30″][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”false” css=”.vc_custom_1551130014348{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]

Teacher: Cody Thatcher & Mike Hix

Grades: 7th Grade
School: Schoo Middle School, Lincoln, NE
Principal: Cedric Cooper
Foundation: The Welles Remy Crowther Charitable Trust; and The Terry Farrell Firefighters’ Fund

We teach 7th grade world history and our focus is ancient history, not United States history. We also share our personal experiences from the day, for example as a 4th grade student in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Resources are pulled from different sources ranging from CBS News, CNN 10, The Lincoln Journal Star, MTV, and countless other images from the day. The purpose of the lesson is to not only learn about the events of 9/11 but also to understand how life has changed since.
